MG 00 Qan[T]

First off, I think this is one of the better MG boxarts for 2010. The pose is simple, with lots of green effect going around. I like it. Piloted by Setsuna F. Seiei, 00 Qan[T] is the supposed lead Gundam of the Gundam 00 movie; A wakening of the Trailblazer. But, only appearing at the last 20 to 30 minutes of the movie, it didn’t really feel like the star of the show.

Anyways, I got this model from HobbyTown USA during December of 2010. I liked the design, and enjoyed the movie so why not. The only thing I didn’t like was that Sunrise decided to add some red and yellow to the design. So with that, I had plans to change the color scheme to my likings.

This is a painted kit and so if you want,  you can go to dalong for the straight build look.

So what I did is I got rid of the red and yellow colors. I used Tamiya Spray Light Gunmetal for the inner frame, Tamiya Spray Brilliant Blue and Tamiya Spray Blue for the, well, blue parts. Combination of Krylon White and Tamiya Spray Pure White for the white parts. Used Krylon Gray Primer for the yellow parts. After some panel lining, gave everything a flat coat using Krylon Clear Flat.

If you look closely, there are some parts where the decals clouded over from the topcoat process. The decals wasn’t completely adhering on the parts… Lesson learn: gloss coat after painting to have better decal results. You can also see some smudged panel lining on the white parts. While Tamiya paints dry pretty glossy and smooth, the Krylon white for some reason, when drying, becomes kind of sticky. Not sure why. It could have been that I sprayed on too thick of layers. But the problem could have been solved with gloss coating before panel lining.

Size Comparison

00 Qan[T] is about the same height as the RX-78-2 Gundam.

Of course, it’s taller then the Wing Gundam. Now let’s get started.

GN Sword V [Sword Mode]

The main weapon of the 00 Qan[T]. The blade is all clear green, looks almost like a lightsaber. ^^;

While this Gundam is pretty pose-able, ground poses isn’t it’s thing. Then again, it didn’t really fought on earth in the movie.

GN Sword V [Rifle Mode]

And, of course, any Gundam that Setsuna pilots that has a sword always has a gun mode.

The rifle mode for this particular GN Sword looks dumb in comparison to the GN Sword IIs. That’s my opinion though.

GN Sword Bits

Unsurprisingly, the Gundam isn’t as side heavy without the sword bits as opposed with them on.

This set up was pretty messy… XD

Can’t really do much since it took up so much room. ^^;

00 Qan[T] can also use the Sword Bits in it’s hands, which it didn’t do in the movie!

I actually had some fun with these bits. Being small and light, they don’t cause a lot of weight issues for the Gundam to hold.

GN Sword V [Buster Rifle]

GN Sword V and sword bits can combine to form a, what I like to call, cannon. ^^;

I had more posing ideas, but at this point, I was getting pretty frustrated with the weapon and the Gundam unable to hold said weapon.

Close the tips of the Buster rifle, turn the sword, and you get… well, a larger sword. I need to compare this to the GN Buster Sword II on the MG 00 Gundam Seven Sword/G when ever that comes out. Again, I was pretty frustrated at the kit’s inability to hold or swing the weapon so hardly any pics whatsoever.

Pros and Cons:

Pros:

• Although the 00 Qan[T] can look weird at some angles, I think it looks great.
• Clear parts are in a nice dark clear green.
• Great articulations and pose-ability.
• Offers tons of re-playability with the Sword Bits.

Cons:

• Massive weight issue with the GN Sword in both Buster forms. The hands just can’t hold it, and the Action Base could help if you have the patient.
• The thing that attaches the GN Sword V to the fore arms doesn’t really do it’s job. It can slide in and out at will.
• The clamps that hold the lower bits on the GN Shield has been reported to break, so be careful.
• Side skirts LOVES to fall off.
• Ankles can be a little wonky, due to the top heaviness  from the Gundam.
• Some weight issues with the kit due to the GN Shield.
• No LEDs comes with the kit.
• No 1/100 scale GN Sword IV Full Saber. :(

Final Verdict

Overall, I think it’s a good Master Grade kit. Some of the cons are really some nit picky stuff, except for the blasted side skirts wanting to fall off. It’s priced at the Master Grade standard 4500 yen, so it maybe more tempting then the 6500 yen 00 Raiser, or the 5500 yen for the 00 Gundam Seven Sword/G. All three are pretty much identical builds though. So would I recommend this kit. Yes, if you like the design, the movie, or anything 00 related, this will be a great kit to get. If you don’t like the design, well I’m not sure what to say. At any rate, I give this kit a thumbs up! ^.^b
